PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - With plenty of new faces seeing action for the Quakers, the
gymnastics team just kept on rolling Wednesday night in their quad-meet. The
host Quakers defeated West Chester, Ursinus, and Wilson to pick up three more
victories on the season. Penn has now won six meets in a row after Wednesday
night. The Quakers scored 187.925 points as team to put a five point gap
between themselves and runner-up Ursinus, who finished with 182.925.
Two of the Quakers who made a significant impact on the team
score, Megan Milavec and Elise Bowe, were not new faces to the Quaker rotation,
but they did get the chance to compete in all four events and become eligible for
the All Around. Milavec had competed in every event for the Quakers in the
first three meets of the season, before competing in just three against Cornell.
She rewarded the decision of her coach to give all four events a try again with
a victory in the All Around and the Floor Exercise. Milavec also broke her
season-high mark for the All Around and the Vault, which was the event she did
not compete in against Cornell. In addition to those performances, Milavec
broke her career-high in the bars and season-high in the Balance Beam. Bowe has been a key contributor to the Quakers on the
Uneven Parallel Bars and the Balance Beam all season long. Against Cornell, she
added the Vault to her repertoire. Tonight, she finally received the opportunity
to compete in four events. She also rewarded her coach with her second place
finish in the All Around behind Milavec. Bowe broke season-high marks in both
the Balance Beam and Vault, placing fifth and ninth respectively in those
events. She also added a fifth place finish in the bars and seventh place in
the Floor Exercise to give her a solid mark in every event. The Quakers started off the night on the Uneven Parallel
Bars and quickly jumped out to an early lead. Dana Bonincontri picked up her
first win of the evening to lead the Quakers. Milavec and Kirsten Strausbaugh would
finish in a tie for third. Bowe's fifth place finish gave the Quakers four of the
top five finishers in the event. Rebecca Enberg made her season debut in the
bars and finished in 10th place. Captain Megan Metsgar also saw her first
action of the season, finishing in 17th place in the event. Penn owned the Balance Beam for the second consecutive meet.
The Quakers bested their score that they had set just three days ago, falling
just short of a 48, with a team score of 47.925. Bonincontri won this event, giving
her two victories in the only two events that she saw action in. Keolamau Yee
and Milavec tied for third and Bowe finished in fifth place overall. Just like
the bars competition, the Quakers placed four gymnasts in the top five of the
Balance Beam. Katie Graham added a seventh place finish to the score sheet with
her routine. Moving over the Floor Exercise, behind the aforementioned
Milavec victory, where two more Quakers, Nicki Valenti and Graham. Valenti broke
her career-high in the floor to finish in a second place tie. Graham, who also
broke her career-high in this event, finished in a tie with Valenti. In
addition, to the Bowe seventh place finish, Mia Madlambayan and Yee both
finished the event in a tie for 15th. The team finished up the meet on the Vault with some very
strong individual performances. Milavec and Graham led the way for the Quakers
with their tie for second place. Diana Moock also got into the act with a sixth
place finish in her only event of the night. Bowe wrapped up her night with
ninth in the event. Madlambayan and Valenti finished in a 15th place tie for
the event. The Quakers will now have to hit the road for one event
before returning home again. The team will travel to the Shelli Calloway
Memorial Invitational at Towson University on February 20. After this meet, the
Quakers will return home and carry their skills into The Palestra to take part
in the Ivy Classic on February 27. Action for both of these events will begin
at 1 p.m. Full Penn Results
