PHILADELPHIA - Following outstanding performances in the gymnastics' team final home meet of the season, Dana Bonincontri and Keolamau Yee were recognized by the conference for their efforts this past Sunday. Bonincontri was named ECAC Co-Gymnast of the Week, sharing the award with Emily Lutfey of Brown. Prior to this week, Bonincontri had won the weekly award outright on three separate occasions. Yee was recognized as the ECAC Co-Freshman of the Week. She also shares her award with a Brown gymnast, Michelle Shnayder. Yee won the Freshman of the Week award outright two weeks ago.
Bonincontri is coming off a performance in which she set a career-high with an all-around score of 38.975, which was also the best in the conference for the week. In each of the four events, Bonincontri scored at least a 9.6. Her highest mark of the day came in the uneven bars where she scored a 9.825. On the beam and floor, she scored 9.775 and 9.750 respectively. On vault, she scored a 9.625. Both her scores on vault and bars were a team-high on the day for Penn. Heading into the ECAC Championships this weekend, Bonincontri is ranked third overall in the All-Around. Bonincontri is also ranked ninth in the conference on the balance beam.
Yee was once again very consistent this week on the beam and floor. She posted a team-high score for the season with a 9.800 on the balance beam and added 9.600 to Penn's floor exercise. Her beam score placed her first at the team's quad-meet, while the floor exercise score was good enough for 12th place at the end of the meet. Yee's 9.8 on the beam tied for the second-highest mark in the ECAC this past week. Beam has been a strong suit of Yee all year long as she is currently ranked ninth in the ECAC in that event. She has scored at least a 9.7 on beam in five of the team's nine meets this season. On floor, Yee has scored at least 9.6 in seven of Penn's meets this season.
Bonincontri, Yee, and the rest of the Quaker's gymnasts will be looking to carry their momentum into this week's ECAC Championships, which are being held in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday at noon. At this event, Penn will have a chance to showcase its talents in front of some of the best teams on the east coast.
