Bonincontri Qualifies for Three Event Finals at USAG Championships

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Dana Bonincontri just continues to put up strong postseason performances. After being named ECAC Athlete of the Year and NCAA Regional Qualifier, Bonincontri has now qualified for the event finals in the uneven bars, floor exercise, and all-around of the USAG Championships at the Air Force Academy on Friday evening. Bonincontri needed a top-five finish in each of the events to move on to the individual finals on Sunday afternoon.

As a team, Penn finished fourth overall in the second session of qualifying with a score of 188.7 and did not advance to the team championship portion of the meet. Texas Women's University and the Air Force Academy posted the top two team scores out of session two, advancing on to Saturday.

On the Vault, Bonincontri just missed out on qualifying for her fourth event as she posted a 9.7, which put her in eighth place at the end of the event, just .025 points out of a fifth place tie. Kirsten Strausbaugh also had a strong day on Vault as she posted a 9.525 and finished the event in 17th place. Elise Bowe and Diana Moock would go on to finish the event in 22nd and 23rd place respectively.

In the uneven bars competition, Bonincontri used a 9.750 to finish in fifth for the event. That mark was less than a tenth of a point behind the event winner from the second session. Strausbaugh missed qualifying by this event by exactly one-tenth of a point as she posted a 9.6 to finish in 15th. Bowe and Rebecca Engberg finished the bars competition in 24th place tie and Megan Milavec finished right behind them with a 26th place finish.

Strausbaugh led all Quaker Gymnasts on the Balance Beam with her 9.550 that put her in 16th place at the end of the day. Bowe and Milavec each posted a 9.525 and finished in a tie for 20th place on beam. Nicki Valenti competed a the beam for the first time all season and posted a very strong 9.450 in her first attempt, while Bonincontri finished the beam competition in 25th place.

Penn's Highest score of the evening came when Bonincontri posted a 9.8 on the floor exercise to finish just .05 points behind the top qualifying score of the evening and in second place. Strausbaugh just missed qualifying with her 9.7, which put her in ninth place, just .025 points out of the group that tied for fifth. Keolamau Yee posted her best routine of the night when she scored a 9.6 to finish the floor in 16th. Milavec posted a 9.425 and finished in 21st place, while Bowe and Valenti each scored 9.225 and finished in a 25th place tie.

With a 38.525 in the All-Around, Bonincontri finished in fourth to move on to Sunday. Strausbaugh scored a combined 38.375 to finish in sixth, just barely missing the cut-off for Sunday. Bowe also finished her final meet as a Penn Gymnast in ninth place in the All-Around, while Milavec's scores gave her a 10th place finish to end her season in the All-Around.

For Bonincontri, her individual event finals will begin at 4 p.m. EST on Sunday. The entire team will be out of competition on Saturday as the team championships will be taking place at this time.
