PHILADELPHIA - Laura DiPaolo has been awarded the ECAC Coaches' Choice Award following her courageous effort during the meet at Maryland this past weekend. After suffering an injury during practice earlier in the week, DiPaolo was unsure if she was going to be able to compete in the meet, but wanted to help out her team in any way possible.
One of Penn's top gymnasts on both the vault and uneven bars, DiPaolo was unable to compete on vault Sunday with her injury. The day of the competition, DiPaolo was placed into the bars rotation for Penn and finished with a season-high 9.7 on her routine. This scored placed her 12th overall in a very deep bars field. It also helped Penn put up its best bars score as a team this season, which was also the third-best bars routine in program history.
DiPaolo is currently ranked 12th in the ECAC conference on vault with a regional qualifying average of 9.725. On the bars, she has a regional qualifying score of 9.62. This is the third weekly award that DiPaolo has earned this season from the ECAC. Prior to this week, she had already been named the ECAC Specialist of the Week twice this season.
The Quakers will be back in action this Friday night at Towson for a 7 p.m. quad meet that also features Yale and George Washington. This will be the final meet before the ECAC Championships that will be held Saturday, March 24 inside The Palestra.
