MUNICE, IND. – The Penn gymnastics team split its tri-meet on Friday night in Muncie, Ind. The Quakers placed second with a team score of 189.575, finishing behind host Ball State’s 193.800 and in front of Centenary’s 187.550.

The highlight of the night for Penn’s squad was on the uneven bars. Dana Bonincontri led the pack with a 9.775, and right behind her was co-captain Kirsten Strausbaugh with a 9.675. Senior Megan Milavec had the third-best score on bars for the Red and Blue, scoring a season-high 9.675. In total, the Quakers scored a season-high 48.050 on bars.

The next best event for Penn was vault. The best Red and Blue’s top performers were Strausbaugh, who scored a season-high 9.675, and rookie Emily Paterson – the freshman tied her career-high with a 9.625.

On a day when Bonincontri and Strausbaugh didn’t perform their best, Milavec and Elyse Shenberger picked up the slack. The freshman Shenberger put together another bid for a possible second-straight ECAC Rookie of the Week award. She placed second on beam with a career-high-tying 9.725, fourth on floor with a career-high 9.700, and scored a 9.575 on vault. Milavec put together a season-high all-around performance, totaling 37.900 and placing third overall. Her two best performances on the night were season-high scores on floor (9.650) and bars (9.675) – she placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

Penn will be back on the mat once again when they travel locally to West Chester, Pa. on Feb. 9 for a 1 p.m. meet with neighboring West Chester.
