Gymnastics Travels to Ursinus on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – Penn gymnastics will be back on the mat on Sunday for a 1 p.m. meet against Ursinus in Collegeville, Pa. The Quakers head into the meet against the Bears looking to rebound from their third-place finish at the Ivy Classic last weekend. New faces will be looking to make contribution for the Red and Blue as the team looks to get healthy for the stretch run leading up to the ECAC Championships on March 23 in Ithaca, N.Y.

Penn and Ursinus have met one other time this season at a quad-meet hosted by Rutgers in New Brunswick, N.J. on Jan. 19. The Quakers scored a then-season-high 190.525 to place third, and the Bears were right behind them, finishing fourth with a 182.725.

During that meet, Penn dominated on vault and floor, but scored below average on beam and bars. The Quakers have since remedied those issues, scoring at least 47.875 on bars since then and posting its two highest team scores on beam this season during the past two meets.

Ursinus will be fresh off its 189.350-183.875 loss to West Chester last weekend – the Bears’ score was their second-highest this season. They have been competitive in every event this season, and will be pose a tough test for the Quakers in Penn’s second-to-last dual meet of 2013.
