PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team will be represented by one of its own Saturday night at the NCAA regional championships in Morgantown, Va. Senior co-captain Kirsten Strausbaugh is now a three-time NCAA regional qualifier and will compete on April 6 beginning at 6 p.m.
Penn’s all-around competitor is coming off her best season in her four years in Red and Blue, one in which she finished the year as a first-team All-ECAC performer on bars and in the all-around. Additionally, Strausbaugh was named co-ECAC Athlete of the Year while being rated as the conference’s top Division I all-around gymnast. She would eventually lead the Quakers to their second consecutive ECAC championship and fifth in program history.
The Morgantown regional will be hosted by West Virginia University at the WVU Coliseum. It will feature six competing teams, five at-large all-around competitors – which is the category where Strausbaugh falls – and an additional individual specialist for each event. The top two teams and the top two individual all-around competitors not on either of those teams will advance to the NCAA championships in Los Angles from April 19-21.
Live stats and two separate live video streams – one focused on bars and beam and one on floor and vault – will be available as well. Visit the tournament central page HERE and make sure to follow @UPennGym for live updates throughout the competition.
