College Park, Md. - A split squad of the women's swimming team traveled to Maryland this weekend and competed in the two-day Terp Invite. Led by the sprint freestylers, Penn ended with 13 top-three finishes with many new personal best records being set.

Senior Becca James started things with a second place finish in the 500 Freestyle. Her time of 5:04.88 cut over two seconds off her previous mark. Shortly thereafter, freshman Elyssa Pedote came in second in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:04.53. Katie Orem and Marybeth Heine added third and fourth place finishes, respectively.

In the 100 Freestyle, Irene Katopodis, Kristen Degrazia and Emily Ashton combined for a 1-2-3 finish with each setting a new best time in the event. Katopodis won the race in 52.41. She went back to work in the 50 Freestyle, winning that event as well and setting a new personal best during prelims with a 24.07. Degrazia added a second place finish in the 200 Freestyle, coming in only four-tenths of a second behind the winner.

Tatiana McLauchlan turned in a strong showing in the 1650 Free, finishing second with a time of 17:37.53, also a new best time.

Penn is off until Feb. 23 when they travel to Harvard for the Ivy Championships. That three-day event will wrap up on Feb. 25.
