PHILADELPHIA - The Quakers got strong performances in the final three events to hold off Columbia on Friday night and earn a 165.5-135.5 victory over the Lions at Sheerr Pool.

Senior Madeline Bauer won the 3-meter diving event, sophomore Melissa Parratto finished third in the 200-yard I.M. and the Quakers closed out the meet by finishing first and third in the 400-yard free relay to clinch the victory over Columbia. With the win Penn moves to 3-1 in dual meets and 2-1 within the Ivy League.

In the relay, the quartet of senior Naomi Delphin, junior Jennifer Claydon, senior Meghan Barron and freshman Shelby Fortin won in 3:32.96.The third place group of sophomore Blair Webb, junior Samantha Husband, junior Rebecca James and freshman Kristi Edleson finished just .05 seconds out of second with their time of 3:36.06.

Overall Penn won nine of the meet's 16 events, with three swimmers winning multiple individual events. In addition to her victory in the relay, Fortin won three events on Friday, taking first in the 100-yard back (57.55), 100-yard free (51.80) and 500-yard free (4:58.38).

Parratto also swam well, winning the 100-yard and 200-yard fly. The sophomore finished the 100 in 57.33 and won the 200 in 2:03.37. Her time in the 200 was the second fastest time in Penn history, only trailing her school-record time of 2:02.59.

In addition to her victory in the 3-meter (234.83), Bauer also won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 226.88. Delphin and freshman Julia Anderson also won on Friday. Delphin swam the 200-yard free in 1:54.80 while Anderson finished the 1,000-yard free in 10:11.95.

The Quakers return to competition on Jan. 5, when they take on Brown in North Miami Beach, Fla.
