PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's swimming team will close out the home portion of its 2011-12 season on Saturday, hosting La Salle and UMBC. It will be Senior Day for Amanda Ackerman, Jenny Claydon, Jackie Hain, Sammi Husband, Rebecca James and Laura Klick, and the team will try to send them off with one final win at Sheerr Pool. The diving competition will take place at 10 a.m. with swimming to follow at 12 p.m.

Penn breezed to victory last week at West Chester, taking 10 out of the first 12 events in a 163-134 romp over the Golden Rams. With two talented teams coming in on Saturday, the Quakers will return to their usual events after doing some swapping in their meet against the Division II opponent. Claydon and sophomore Shelby Fortin won two events each last time out.

La Salle owns a 6-3 mark entering this weekend, including a 174-126 destruction of Loyola (MD) a week ago in Baltimore. Junior Jessica Simunek leads the team in both the breaststroke and butterfly events, where she will challenge Klick and Taylor Sneed. A pair of underclassmen, sophomore Greta Reichert and freshman Colleen Larkin, excel in distance freestyle.

UMBC, the reigning champions of the America East Conference, are 4-3 in dual meets on the season and were the champions of George Mason's Patriot Invitational in November. The Retrievers' Abbey McKenney was named the America East's Most Outstanding Female Swimmer last season as a junior and holds school records in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, as well as the 100 and 200 Backstroke.

The Quakers are just three weeks away from the Ivy Championships, held this year at Harvard from Feb. 23-25. Before then, a split squad will head to College Park, Md. for the Terp Invite, hosted by the University of Maryland. That two-day event will be run next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11.
