Day One Results (Men and Women Combined)

Charlottesville, Va. -
Wins from Meaghan Kwarcinski in the 200 IM and the 800 Freestyle Relay team have Penn 15 points clear of second place James Madison at the midway point of the Cavalier Invitational, hosted by the University of Virginia.

Kwarcinski swam in the first individual event of the evening and blew away both the field and her personal best. She finished more than two seconds ahead of second place in the event and bested her previous time in the race by more than eight seconds.

The Quakers got a pair of third-place finishes shortly thereafter. Jesse Evans shaved more than 10 seconds off her previous career-best time in the 500 Freestyle (5:06.63) and Emily Ashton nicked about a second-and-a-half off her personal best in the 100 Breaststroke (1:04.98).

Two solid races from relay squads solidified Penn's hold on the lead as the night ended. The 'A' team of Kwarcinski, Katie Orem, Evans and Erica Pangilinan took home the 800 Freestyle Relay in 7:45.56. In the last event, the 'B' team of Moriah Cesaretti, Catherine Yee, Teresa Dula and Clarissa Palmer swam the 400 Medley Relay in 4:11.74.

Action from Virginia will conclude tomorrow with preliminaries once again starting at 10 a.m., with finals to follow at 6 p.m.
