PHILADELPHIA – For the second year in a row, University of Pennsylvania women’s swimming senior Shelby Fortin will compete at the NCAA Championships held at the Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis starting Thursday and continuing through Saturday. The seven-time Ivy League champion will swim in the 500 free on Thursday, the 200 free on Friday, and the 100 free on Saturday. Even though Fortin will cap off her illustrious career at championships, she has certainly made her mark at Penn.

Live results can be found here.

A four-time recipient of the team’s Most Valuable Swimmer award, Fortin holds five individual school records and swam on four of the school record relay teams. She also recorded two individual Sheerr Pool records – in the 500 free and 1000 free -- and is part of the pool record 200 free relay team.

At this year’s Ivy League Championships, Fortin was the first swimmer to set a new meet record, after her first-place finish in 200 free with a time of 1:45.69. (The previous record in the 200 free was set at 1:46.39 by Harvard’s Kate Mills in 2009.) The win was her third title in the event and her seventh individual career title, which is the most in any woman in program history.

Also at the Ivy Championships, Fortin qualified for the 500 free with the best preliminary time of 4:43.73 but was edged out in the finals by 12 hundredths of a second, finishing in second at 4:44.12. Fortin also placed second in the 100 free with a time of 49.42.

ESPN3.com will stream finals sessions on Friday and Saturday live. Thursday’s sessions, along with the morning sessions on Friday and Saturday, will be streamed live via gophersports.com. Additionally, ESPNU will air a 90-minute show at 9 p.m. ET, Wednesday, April 2. Live results for the championships will be available on www.NCAA.com.
