PHILADELPHIA - Serving as a team captain and helping manage the Quakers pitching staff behind the plate, University of Pennsylvania baseball's Austin Bossart was named to the 2014 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area baseball team.
The junior catcher finished the academic year with a 3.48 GPA in economics, while hitting .297 with a .397 on-base percentage, with four home runs and 19 RBI. He was second on the team in hits, with 47, and run scored, with 29. He also led the team being hit by a pitch 14 times throughout the course of the season.
Behind the plate the O'Fallon, Ill. native threw out 11 of 31 base runners, while picking off three more, and sported a .993 fielding percentage, making only two errors.
Bossart earned Ivy League and Big 5 Player of the Week honors on April 22, after totaling seven hits, including a home run, and three RBI in four games with Princeton.
