PHILADELPHIA - Following the best hitting week of his career, freshman Rick Brebner was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
The utility infielder started all four games at second base and hit .545 in Penn's season-ending series with Columbia. He is the third Quaker to achieve the honor this season, joining classmates Matt Gotschall and Brandon Engelhardt. Brebner had at least one hit and one RBI in all four games over the weekend, including a pair of 2-for-3 games -- both Penn wins. The rookie finished with six hits, four RBI and three runs. Three of his RBIs came with two outs in the inning while he also walked five times and was hit once for a .706 on-base percentage. In the field, Brebner did not commit an error in 17 chances at second.
Penn finished its season with a 19-21 record and a 10-10 mark in league play for the second straight season.
