PHILADELPHIA - A quick offensive start to the season for two Penn baseball players has earned them recognition in the city of Philadelphia and in the Ivy League. Senior outfielder Ryan Deitrich was named the Big 5 Player of the Week on Monday, while Mike Vilardo earned a nod from the conference office, earning the first Rookie of the Week award of the season on Tuesday.

Deitrich was on fire from the plate against William & Mary, batting 9-for-15 (.600) against the Tribe, while scoring four runs and knocking in two more. The captain also drew three walks in the four-game series, giving him an on-base percentage of .667 in the early going this season.

Vilardo has been a catalyst for Penn's offense at the top of the order with six hits - including three doubles and a home run - against William & Mary. His six RBI lead the team, while on the defensive side of the ball he's been involved in four of Penn's six double plays.

The two of them will lead the Quakers back into action today at 3 p.m. in the first of a two-game series against the Duke Blue Devils from Jack Coombs Field. Follow along with the game using live stats and by following @PennBaseball.
