Fresno, Calf. - The Red and Blue had the bases loaded in their half of the ninth inning but could not bring in the two runs needed to even the game as Penn dropped a 4-2 decision to Monmouth.

Penn (0-2) loaded the bases in the top of the ninth on a pair of singles from Sean Abate and Kyle Armeny, followed by a base on balls drawn by Michal Gatti.  A strike out and a double play ended the Quakers' threat and the game.  The Red and Blue also had runners on in the eighth with one out but could not bring the runners home to even the score.

Alex Blagojevich led Penn's offensive attack, going 3-for-4 at the plate.  The senior outfielder drove in the Quakers' second run of the day with a single in the fifth.  Matt Horn, who was 2-for-3 and is now hitting .750 (6-for-8) drove in his team's first run of the day on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

Monmouth (1-3) staked an early lead with three runs in the second.  The Hawks added an insurance fourth tally in the third inning.

Penn opens the 2005 Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic on Monday with a 10 a.m. (PST) tilt against the University of San Francisco.  Monmouth is also an entrant in this year's Classic.
