Fresno, Calif. - Quiet bats and six unearned runs spoiled a superb pitching performance by junior hurler Brian Cirri as the Quakers dropped a 9-2 decision to Dallas Baptist on Friday afternoon at Pete Beiden Field.  Matt Horn rocked his first home run of the season to account for Penn's two tallies.

Cirri pitched a strong five and two-third innings for the Red and Blue (0-7), giving up just two earned runs on five hits and striking out three Patriots (10-10).  His only costly mistake was to Austin Thornton in the second inning when the catcher took Cirri's offering deep over the left field wall.  Thornton was 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored.

Dallas Baptist opened the game up with a half dozen unearned runs in the sixth inning after a throwing error kept the inning alive for the Patriots.  Drew Holder accounted for three of those runs with a home run.  The right fielder finished the day 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Penn put a crooked number on the scoreboard on Horn's blast in the seventh inning, scoring Nate Moffie who had reached on a single through the right side of the infield.  Horn was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI and that one run scored.

Also collecting hits for the Quakers were Kyle Armeny (1-for-4), Andrew Bechta (1-for-4) and Evan Sobel (2-for-4).  Winning pitcher, Rodney Brantley, had not allowed a hit until Sobel's single to right-center field in the fifth.  Brantley pitched eight innings, giving up two runs on five hits and fanning a pair of Quakers.

Penn battles Monmouth at 10 a.m. (PST) in the seventh-place game to close out the 2005 Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic.  The Quakers met Monmouth in their second game of the season, losing 4-2.
