Sponsored by Robbins Sports Surfaces, the Cincinnati-based sports surfaces company, the awards honor the outstanding academic and athletics achievements of student-athletes representing ECAC schools in Divisions I, II and III. One male and one female athlete from each division have been selected by their institutions.
Appell was a two-sport standout for the Red and Blue suiting up for both the football and baseball teams. On the football field, Appell led the Ivy League in punting the entire season en route to a first-team All-Ivy League selection and finished 2004 with a 40.9 yards per punt average. Appell recorded only two games this season with an average under 40 yards, pinned the opponent inside the 20-yard line 17 times and had punts in excess of 50 yards or more 12 times. The
Appell is now eligible to be honored at the ECAC Convention Honors Dinner presented by Jostens on Sunday, September 25. Three committees comprised of athletics administrators will select two award winners in each division to be honored. The selections are based on extraordinary achievements in academics, athletics and community service.
