Leah Allen Selected as ECAC Rookie of the Year

CENTERVILLE, Mass. On Tuesday afternoon, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2014 Division I Softball All-Star teams and selected among the major award winners was University of Pennsylvania freshman softball outfielder Leah Allen. The first Quaker to receive a major award from the ECAC, Allen was voted this year’s Rookie of the Year by the head coaches within the ECAC Division I Softball membership and was also a first-team ECAC All-Star selection. She is one of two freshmen to make either team and is only the second player among the Ancient Eight to earn a major award. (Harvard’s Kasey Lange was named Rookie of the Year in 2011.)

ECAC 2014 Division I Softball All Star Release

The unanimous 2014 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Allen was named first team All-Ivy and a NFCA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team selection. She finished her freshman campaign for the Red and Blue with a .383 batting average and set new single-season records at Penn while leading the League with 13 home runs and 43 RBI. The freshman also had a League-best .759 slugging percentage.
