PHILADELPHIA - Softball's
one-game playoff for the South Division will be held this Saturday, May 5 at
12:30 p.m. By winning three of the four games during the regular season series,
the Quakers have earned the right to host this matchup at Penn Park. Since the Ivy
League went to North and South Divisions during the 2007 season, this will be
the first time an additional game has been needed to determine a divisional
champion.
With the one-game playoff extending into the originally
scheduled Ivy League Championship Series weekend, the best-of-three series to
determine the Ivy League Champion has been pushed back to May 11-12. With a win
over Cornell on Saturday, Penn would advance to play in the championship series
that will be hosted by Harvard.
Both Penn and Cornell finished 15-5 in Ivy League play,
while Harvard finished with a 17-3 record in the Ivies to capture the North
Division. The Quakers also played Cornell at home during the regular season,
winning each of the first three games in that series before Cornell took the
fourth and final game.
A complete preview of this weekend's matchup will be
available later this week.
