Ivy League Release
PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team had one of its own honored by the Ivy League on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman pitcher Lauren Li was named Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career, earning the award after picking up a win as well as a save during Penn’s 3-1 Ivy weekend.
The Los Angeles, Calif. native started Game 2 against Harvard on March 29, allowing two runs over seven innings for the complete game victory. Li is now 4-0 on the season and ranks second on the Red and Blue in victories, earned run average (2.70), games started (5), complete games (3), shutouts (1), innings pitched (33.2) and walks allowed (8). Additionally, the freshman recorded her team and Ivy League-leading second save of the season on March 30 in Game 2 against Dartmouth. She preserved the 3-1 victory by getting the final four outs of the contest.
The Quakers will be back in action tomorrow at Penn Park against Monmouth. Game 1 versus the Hawks is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with the nightcap to follow.
