Game 2: Penn 6, Brown 4

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Pennsylvania softball team (17-13, 7-1) dominated Ivy League play on its first road conference weekend of the season in 2013. After sweeping Yale on Friday afternoon, the Quakers continued their success with another sweep on Saturday afternoon, this time over Brown (7-16, 1-7) in Providence, R.I. Alexis Borden was dominant once again in Game 1, striking out six over seven innings for her eighth victory of the season and Lindsay Mann earned her fourth win of the season in Game 2.

Game 1:
WP: Alexis Borden (8-7), 7 IP, 4 H, 4 BB, 6 K

LP: Jessica Cherness (3-7), 4.2 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, K

Penn starting things off early by bringing one across in the top of the first. With the bases loaded and one out, Georgia Guttadaro would strike out, but the Brown pitcher would throw a wild pitch, scoring Elysse Gorney from third on the play. Later in the game, the Quakers would score four more in the top of the fifth.

With two runners in scoring position, Samantha Erosa would fly out to right field for the sacrifice, scoring the first run of the inning. The next batter, Brooke Coloma, would smack an RBI-single to right, scoring Gorney from third for another run. Then a couple batters later, Guttadauro would single to right for two runs to finish out the inning.

The Red and Blue would add two more insurance runs in the top of the sixth to seal the deal. Samathna Erosa was the next contribute as the senior popped an RBI-single to right. The next at-bat saw Coloma fly out for the sacrifice RBI to complete the offense for the first game.

Game 2:
WP: Lindsay Mann (4-2), 4.1 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, BB

LP: Sarah Ropiak (4-7). 7 IP, 15 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 4 K

The Quakers would trail, 1-0, early but come back to take a lead they would never relinquish in the top of the second. Sydney Turchin approached the plate with two runners in scoring position, and the sophomore grounded out for a run. Gorney would plate another in the following at-bat with a double to right-center. Erosa and Coloma would follow with doubles of their own, scoring two Quakers in the process. Kayla Dahlerbruch completed the inning with an RBI double as well, giving Penn the early 5-1 lead after one and a half.

Brown would get two more back in the bottom of the fifth, but ultimately fell to Penn 6-4. Mann is now third on the team with four victories as the senior continues to set a career high in the wins category, now with four.

The Red and Blue will be back at Penn Park on April 11 for a match up with Big 5 rival Villanova. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start as live stats and live streaming will be available as well. Make sure to follow @UPennSoftball for live in-game updates and conversation.
