PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team had two of its members honored by the Ivy League on Tuesday afternoon. Stephanie Caso was named the league’s Player of the Week while Alexis Borden earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

Caso entered into last week with a .276 batting average before jumping into a five-game hitting streak. The senior now leads Penn with a .356 average after hitting .667 this past week. Additionally she had 10 hits and four RBI. Caso has had a handle on the shortstop position for the Quakers since her first day in Philadelphia, and during the past week she was perfect in the field, converting on all 18 of her chances.

The Brooklyn, N.Y. native is also leaving her mark on the Penn record books. She is currently ranked in the top 10 in career at-bats (433), career hits (129) and career runs scored (72).

Borden also had a dominant week, racking up a perfect 2-0 record without allowing a single earned run over three starts in four appearances. Additionally, she now leads the Ivy League with a 1.56 ERA and boasts an astounding 1.07 strikeouts per inning ratio. The Yorba Linda, Calif. native pitched a total of 20 innings last week, compiling 18 strikeouts and allowing just 11 hits.

As with Caso, Borden continued her assault on the record books this past week as well. The sophomore has maintained her torrid strikeout pace and now has 302 for career, widening the ever-growing gap between her and the rest of the all-time leaders. Additionally, she earned her 32nd career victory in Game 1 against Brown on April 6 and is now the all-time leader in program history.

Borden also moved into the top five at Penn in career complete games with 38 and innings pitched with 299.2. Finally, with her flawless ERA over the past week, she lowered her career number to 1.49 and is currently second all-time.

Borden, Caso and the rest of the Quakers will be back at Penn Park on Thursday evening for a single game matchup with Big 5 rival Villanova. Live stats and live streaming will be available for the contest and make sure to follow @UPennSoftball for live in-game updates and conversation throughout.
