PHILADELPHIA - The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced its PING All-Region teams for the 2011 season, and Penn freshman Max Marsico is among the honorees on the 25-player Northeast team.
Marsico had an outstanding freshman year for the Quakers, as he played in 10 of Penn's 11 events and finished with a team-low 73.9 stroke average in 23 tournament rounds. He was Penn's low scorer at six tournaments, finished second once, and was third among Penn players three times. Marsico shot what is believed to be a school record when he carded a 64 in the third round at the Princeton Invitational, and he finished second overall at two events, the Maryland Intercollegiate and the Rehoboth Beach Fall Invitational. At the Ivy League Championships, Marsico placed 18th overall and was third among Penn players.
Marsico was one of six Ivy League players named to the Northeast team. Overall, a total of 152 golfers across six regions were honored for 2011.
