PHILADELPHIA - The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced the Division I PING All-Region Teams for the 2011-12 men's golf season, and Penn sophomore Max Marsico has been named to the Northeast Region squad.
This is Marsico's second year receiving All-Region recognition. He is one of six Ivy League players named the Northeast Region squad.
Marsico played in all 11 tournaments for the Quakers this year, with a team-low 73.4 stroke average for 25 tournaments rounds. He was Penn's low scorer seven times, including the NCAA South Central Regional in Bowling Green, Ky. that was played earlier this month. At the Ivy League Championships, his birdie on the third playoff hole allowed the Red and Blue to defeat Dartmouth and gain the Ivy's automatic bid into the NCAA regionals.
Marsico was individual medalist at two events this spring, the George Washington Invitational and the Navy Spring Invitational, in both cases helping Penn win the team title as well. In the fall, he tied for first place at the season-opening Maryland Intercollegiate, shooting three sub-70 rounds.
