PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team begins its run-up to the Ivy League Championships at the end of the month this week, playing in two separate events. The first one takes place Monday and Tuesday, the Hoya Invitational being hosted by Georgetown University.
This is the eighth annual Hoya Invitational. The 14-team field will play at The Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Md., and will face a challenging layout designed by PGA Tour veteran Nick Price and famed golf architect Steve Smyers.
The field will boast a pair of Ivy League teams besides Penn (Brown and Yale) as well as the host Georgetown. The field also includes Campbell, Hofstra, Lehigh, Mount St. Mary’s, Nova Southeastern, Penn, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Towson.
The Members Club at Four Streams is a par-72, 6,127-yard course set amid the rolling Maryland farmland and has quickly become one of Maryland’s finest golf facilities. The 14-team field will tee off on Monday morning at 9 a.m. and play 36 holes, with the final 18 holes starting on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
“We have had a good week of practice, and the women are looking forward to playing two events this week,” said head coach Mark Anderson. “This will be a great opportunity to see how we match up against some of the teams we will see at Ivies in three weeks.”
