PHILADELPHIA - The men's tennis team entered the national rankings for the second time in as many years on Tuesday, courtesy of their 8-0 start to the 2011 season.

The Quakers made their first appearance in the ITA National Team Rankings, which were released Tuesday, as the 71st ranked team in the country. Their 8-0 record also matches the team's eight straight wins to begin the 2010 season. It is the highest ranking for Penn since being ranked 68th after an 8-0 start last year.

Head coach Nik DeVore was pleased when he found out. "This is a nice achievement for all our players. Hopefully we can build on that ranking over the next several weeks as we face a number of ranked teams."

The Red and Blue are one of five Ivy League teams to be ranked in the latest ITA poll. Cornell is the league's top-ranked team at No. 40 overall and is followed by Princeton (57), Brown (62) and Columbia (75).

Penn takes its 8-0 mark west next week to battle with a pair of top-65 teams in California. The Quakers will play San Francisco (65), Santa Clara (59), and also take on Pacific, a team which beat San Francisco earlier this season.
