Menís Tennis Drops Match to San Diego, 5-2

SAN DIEGO – The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team dropped its first match over spring break to San Diego State, 5-2, on Wednesday at Aztec Tennis Center. Capturing wins for the Red and Blue was sophomore Vim De Alwis and freshman Matt Nardella. The Quakers hold a 3-6 record, as they prepare for their next match with Cal Poly.

SDSU swept the doubles play, after ending with a close match in the No. 3 slot against sophomore Austin Kaplan and freshman Thomas Spratt, 8-7 (3).

Nardella, who has an individual record of 8-1, knocked off Hendrik Jebens (6-2, 6-2) in the No. 4 spot to begin singles play. Shortly after, the Aztecs followed up with three wins at the No. 3, 1, and 5 slots to secure the win.

Another point for SDSU was earned in the No. 6 singles which was followed up sophomore Vim De Alwis, who closed out the match at the No. 2 slot with a three-set victory over Hunter Nicholas (6-2, 3-6, 11-9).
