Release:  03/25/2014

PHILADELPHIA – After being away for about two and a half weeks, the University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team is set to host St. John’s on Wednesday at 4 p.m. If weather permits, the match will be played outdoors at Hamlin Courts; otherwise, the match will be played inside the Levy Tennis Pavilion. The Red and Blue lead the all-time series, 6-2.

Even though the teams have only met a total of eight times, the outcome has generally been the same each time: four out of Penn’s six wins were by a score of 5-2, including last’s years win. Both wins that St. John’s has tallied against the Quakers were by a score of 5-2. (In 2006, the Red and Blue won, 6-1; in 2011, Penn won 4-3.)

When these two teams met last year, the Quakers started off with the lead after winning the doubles point. The Red Storm kept the Red and Blue on their toes, however, as they took a 2-1 lead with wins at the No. 1 and 4 singles. Penn came out on top, earning victories in the following four singles flights, and won the match, 5-2.
