PHILADELPIA – The Division I Wilson/ITA Women’s East Regional Championship concluded today and two singles players and a doubles team qualified for the National Indoors which are being held in Charlottesville, Va. in two weeks. Regini Acjarya of William and Mary and Bianca Aboubakare of Brown qualified for the singles tournament, while the Old Dominion duo of Nadine Fahoum and Charleen Haarhoff earned a spot in the doubles tournament.

 

No. 3 seed Acjarya defeated No. 7 Aboubakare in the finals, 6-0, 6-2, to win the Championships. Aboubakare upset the No. 2 seed Zoricic of William and Mary in the quarterfinals in route to the finals.

 

Fahoum/Haarhoff, the No. 7 seed defeated the No. 8 team of Jennifer Stevens and Emily Fraser from UVA, 8-4, to secure their ticket to Charlottesville.

 

The Championships which started last Friday with qualifying games included 58 teams from all over the east coast. Tournament director and Penn women’s head coach Michael Dowd was extremely happy with the entire championships.

 

“We were proud to host this prestigious tournament,” he said. “There was great competition throughout the weekend and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.”
