2012-13 Schedule
PHILADELPHIA – A fall home tournament and 10 matches at the
Levy Tennis Pavilion and Hamlin Tennis Center in the spring highlight the Penn
women’s tennis 2012-13 schedule. The Quakers look to build on last year’s
success of winning seven matches, including their first win against a
nationally-ranked opponent since 2008.
The fall season gets started with three tournaments in
September and October. The Quakers begin
play at the Columbia Invitational (Sept. 14-16) before hosting the annual
Cissie Leary Invitational (Sept. 21-23). The fall season wraps up at the
William & Mary Invitational (Oct. 5-7) and the ITA Regionals at Army Oct.
19-23.
Penn begins the spring with a home doubleheader against
Lehigh, who the Quakers defeated 7-0 last year, and Saint Joseph’s on Jan. 19. After
an almost month-long break, Penn returns to Levy for weekend matches against
Rutgers (Feb. 9) and Richmond (Feb. 10). The Quakers were 4-3 winners against
the Spiders last season at Levy. The homestand ends for the Red and Blue with a
match against Stony Brook on Feb. 15.
The Quakers end February on the road in Virginia, playing at
William & Mary (Feb. 23) and Old Dominion (Feb. 24). The southern swing
continues as Penn heads to Florida over spring break for four matches. The Quakers will play James Madison (March 3)
and Stetson (March 4) at Stetson before heading to Florida International (March
7) and Florida Gulf Coast (March 9).
Penn has two more matches, at Maryland and home versus Big 5
Rival Temple, before Ivy play begins.
Five nationally ranked teams from last season highlight the Ivy
schedule, which begins March 30 with a home match against Princeton. Brown
(April 5) and Yale (April 6) come to town the next weekend before Penn heads on
the road for matches at Dartmouth and Harvard, on April 13 and 14 respectively.
Penn defeated #72 Harvard 4-3 last season at the Hamlin Tennis Center.
The home finale will be versus Columbia on Friday April 19
before the season wraps up on the road at Cornell on Sunday April 21.
