PHILADELPHIA – For the first time this spring, the University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team will be playing away from the comforts of home, as the Quakers travel to University Park, Pa. to face Marshall and host Penn State this weekend.

Penn (2-2, 0-0 Ivy) is coming off back-to-back wins against Akron and Rutgers after starting the season falling to Old Dominion and Maryland.

The Quakers have seen excellent play from their top two players junior Sol Eskenazi playing in the No. 1 position and freshman Kana Daniel in the No. 2 position. Penn has also seen its singles lineup strengthened in the last two matches, with the return of sophomore Sonya Latycheva to the No. 3 position. Seniors Jaime Yapp-Shing and Stephanie Do, along with junior Alex Ion round out a singles rotation that has won five of six matches in the team’s two victories.

A trend to keep an eye on will be Penn’s ability to capitalize on the momentum it builds in doubles play. In the Quakers’ two victories, they were able to secure the doubles matches point to lead 1-0 going into singles play, while it was just the opposite in their two losses.

Penn has previously faced Marshall (3-2) twice, in 2007 and 2008, with the Quakers winning both times, 5-2. After starting the season 3-0, The Herd have dropped their last two matches to Virginia Tech and Kentucky.

The match against Penn State (3-4) will be the 33rd meeting between the two schools. Last playing in 2012, the Nittany Lions were able to defeat the Quakers 7-0. Penn had won the previous six meetings prior. Ranked 49th to start the season, Penn State began the spring 3-0, before dropping its last four matches, most recently a 6-1 decision at Virginia Commonwealth. The Nittany Lions are currently ranked 57th in the latest ITA poll.

Penn is set to take on Marshall at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and Penn State at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
