Ivy League Release

PHILADLEPHIA – While it was a team effort in Penn’s 8-7 win over Dartmouth to clinch a berth in the Ivy League Tournament and remain atop the Ancient Eight with a perfect 5-0 League record, two individuals came up with big outings and were honored by the Ivy League for their efforts.

Meg Markham picked up her first career Defensive Player of the Week award, while Caroline Bunting was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Overall, Penn has now received five Ivy weekly awards this season.

Markham was a vital part in Penn limiting Dartmouth to seven goals and forcing the Big Green into 13 total turnovers in the game. Markham spent the evening matched up with Dartmouth’s top attacker, Hana Bowers, and controlled the battle. Bowers, who has 32 goals and 11 assists on the season, was held to just one helper in the game – her only game this season without a goal or multiple points. Markham had two caused turnovers in the game and picked up four ground balls.

Bunting scored her third hat trick of the season – and her second in arrow – on Friday, netting the eventual game-winner with just over seven minutes to play. Her other two goals gave Penn a lead during the contest, including Penn’s first advantage with 1:01 left in the first half.

Bunting shared the Offensive Player of the Week award with Princeton’s Erin McMunn. The two will meet on Wednesday for the Ivy League championship when Penn hosts the Tigers at Franklin Field at 7 p.m.
