PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's rowing team will begin the spring portion of the 2010-11 season with races this weekend on the Cooper River against Duke and Georgetown. The Quakers and Blue Devils will kick off the day with races beginning at 9 a.m.; in the afternoon, the Quakers and the Hoyas will race beginning at 1:24 p.m.
Saturday's races are notable for a couple of reasons. For one, they will take place on the course where Penn will compete in the EAWRC Sprints in a few months. For another, Duke and Georgetown are not usually on a spring schedule that is usually filled by the program's annual cup races.
"We are very excited to get the 2011 season underway," said Head Coach Mike Lane. "The kids have worked hard, built a lot of character and put themselves in a position to be successful. Now we just have to get it done!"
