PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's rowing team has its final Cup race of 2011 on Friday night, as the Quakers make the long trip to Hanover, N.H. to compete with host Dartmouth and No. 1-ranked Princeton for the Class of 1984 Award Plaque.
Races will begin at approximately 6 p.m. and conclude by 7 p.m. Please note this is a change from the original schedule, which had the races going Saturday morning. The change was made due to the threat of inclement weather on Saturday in the North Country. Dartmouth and Penn are first and second, respectively, among teams receiving votes outside the Top 20 in this week's CRCA/USRowing national poll. Because of that, expect a dogfight between the Big Green and Quaker boats. The races take on added significance, of course, as these are the last races before the EAWRC Sprints on May 15 in Pennsauken, N.J. This race has been run continuously since 1985. Amazingly, Princeton has won the varsity 8 race every year with one exception -- in 1986, Dartmouth took top honors. "The briefcase is packed for our last business trip of the spring," said Penn Head Coach Mike Lane. "We are looking forward to taking everything we have learned this spring and lay it out on the water this coming Saturday. This race is always a great tune-up as we get ready for the Sprints in three weeks."
