CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Penn women's rowing team concluded the fall portion of its 2011-12 season at the Rivanna Romp on Sunday.
The highlight for the Quakers came in the novice 8 race, where Penn's won a five-boat contest with a time of 15:13.44 over the 4-kilometer course. That was more than 11 seconds ahead of Virginia, 18 seconds ahead of Old Dominion, and nearly 24 seconds better than Clemson's A boat.
Penn took fifth place out of 11 boats in the varsity 8, clocking 14:40.79. Virginia swept the first three spots in the varsity field, with Clemson's A boat taking second. Penn's B boat was eighth in 15:23.01.
In the women's 4, Penn's B boat took eighth place (16:38.10) while the A boat was ninth (16:41.40). The Quakers' C boat placed 12th (17:03.20), and the D boat was 16th (17:13.40). A total of 20 boats competed in the fours.
Penn also raced two doubles at the Romp, with its A boat coming in third out of five (17:37.00) and the B boat coming in fourth (19:00.90).
