Join Penn as they Jog For Jill! Penn Women's Rowing Boatings (PDF) PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's rowing team has been gearing up, and finally the time has arrived for the women to get into race conditions on the water. The Quakers will be a part of the Navy Day Regatta this Saturday, racing all day on the Schuylkill River. Penn is slated to row five eights and four fours at the Navy Day, which is a traditional kickoff to the college head-race season. "Getting back on the race course is an amazing feeling," said seventh-year head coach Mike Lane. "We have spent a lot of time preparing and now it is time to put that preparation to the test!" Prior to getting on the water, the Penn women will "Jog For Jill" as part of Philadelphia's 5K Halloween Hustle. That race will begin at 8 a.m., and the team invites all friends of the program to join them at Boathouse Row for the run. The "Jog For Jill" campaign, well-known in rowing circles, honors Jill Costello, a former California coxswain who lost her battle with lung cancer while still in school on June 24, 2010. Following the races on Saturday, the Penn rowing programs will host a parent/alumni event at the Comcast Center in Center City. Please contact the rowing office for more information. |
