PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania Athletic Department is proud to announce that it has surpassed its athletic fundraising goal of $10M for total contributions in support of athletics during the 2013-14 fiscal year. Penn Athletics raised more than $12.1M in total gifts, which is inclusive of all annual cash-in gifts, contributions made towards new and existing endowments, as well as gifts made to new and existing capital projects.
In addition to surpassing its total goal, Penn Athletics was able to exceed its annual cash-in goal of $4.1M by raising more than $4.4M with the support of more than 3,500 donors. The donations represent a five-percent increase in support from the previous fiscal year, with all gifts going directly to support the operational budgets across Penn’s 33 varsity sports.
These accomplishments are a direct result of the dedication and support of the entire Penn Athletics community.
“Providing for the needs of current and future student-athletes remains the focus of all of our fundraising efforts,” said the Executive Director of Penn Athletics Development, Scarlett Schmidt. “It is an incredible gift to have such loyal supporters that share in this mission and who are so enthusiastic about positively impacting our student-athletes’ experiences.”
The $12.1M total fundraising effort caps off a great year, and has provided Penn Athletics significant momentum that coincides with the start date of the new Director of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics, M. Grace Calhoun.
“I would like to thank all the Penn alumni, parents and friends who made it possible to surpass last year’s fundraising goals,” said Calhoun. “Your support and generosity toward Penn Athletics has a direct impact on the experiences of our student-athletes and helps them achieve new heights in athletics and beyond. Without private support, our athletic program would not be able to execute against its mission, and for that I thank each one of our donors. Our entire staff is looking forward to working with our many loyal supporters to ensure years of continued success well into the future.”
With the 2014-15 year underway, Penn Athletics is looking to build off 2013-14 and have another strong fundraising campaign.
