PHILADELPHIA – With the busy stretch of Ivy League championship games, Penn Relays, graduation and Spring Fling passed, Franklin Field is undergoing a makeover this summer. A project began on Thursday, May 16 which will see a new SPRINTURF field laid down at Franklin Field for use starting this fall.
The previous artificial turf has been busy – hosting 265 Penn contests over the last 10 years. At home, the Quakers have seen a tremendous amount of success. The Quakers have won 172 of their 265 home games at Franklin Field between the field hockey, football, sprint football, men’s lacrosse and women’s lacrosse programs – good for a .649 winning percentage. Since 2004, those five programs have accounted for 12 Ivy League or Collegiate Sprint Football League championships.
The new surface will feature synthetic turf similar in nature to the previous version, and will be lined for football, men’s lacrosse and women’s lacrosse.
