PHILADELPHIA - Field Hockey was recently announced as one of 60 Division I programs to have earned the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Team Award. To earn this distinction, a team must have a cumulative team G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.
Individually, five members of the team were also named to the NFHCA Academic Squad. To be eligible for this award, players must have earned at least a 3.30 G.P.A. during the same time frame designated for the team award.
Erin Healy garners this honor for the third consecutive season, while fellow
senior Abigail Egan earns this award for the second straight season. Junior
Mandy Epstein has now been named to the NFHCA Academic Squad in each of her
first three seasons at Penn while fellow junior Kyle deSandes-Moyer joins the
squad for her first time. Freshman Alex Iqbal was also named to the academic squad after her first semester at Penn.
