Directions to Penn Park

Located in the shadow of (and providing a spectacular view of) Philadelphia's Center City skyline, James F. "Ace" Adams Field is a synthetic turf facility designed to accommodate soccer, men's and women's lacrosse, and field hockey with inlaid lines for these sports. There are lights for night activity. This field is designed for many recreational uses as well as sporting events. "Ace" Adams Field is surrounded by pedestrian paths, providing a park-like setting that is connected to the core of Penn's campus, and a hill on the East side of this field allows fans to take in the activities as spectators. This field is the first thing you see in Penn Park as you enter from the Walnut Street bridge in the park's Northeast corner.

The field is named in honor of James "Ace" Adams, one of the great names in college lacrosse coaching who was Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at Penn from 1970-77, coming to Philadelphia after a standout 12-year career at Army where he won a trio of national championships and was the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coach of the Year in 1961. The Quakers went a combined 51-34 under Adams' tutelage, including a 10-2 mark in 1977 when the Quakers finished the year ranked fourth. Adams also led Penn to its first two NCAA Championship appearances, in 1975 and 1977; both times the Quakers fell to Navy in the quarterfinal round. He coached 17 All-Americans at Penn.
