Rick Springman, a two-time All-American for the Quakers, is back in The Palestra but this time he's serving as an assistant coach for the Red and Blue.
Springman was a three-time captain and EIWA Champion at Penn. In 2002, he won the John Fletcher Memorial Trophy which is presented at the EIWA Championships to the wrestler who has made the greatest contribution to the EIWA Tournament, and the Bill Sheridan Memorial Award which is presented at the EIWA Championships to the man who scores the most falls in the least team.
As a freshman, he was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year (1998) and also earned first-team All-Ivy League honors in 1999 and 2000.
Springman also excelled off the mat. He was named Academic All-Ivy in 2002 and was named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic team twice.
Springman is working towards a Phd. in mechanical engineering at Penn. He is studying under John Bassani.
