PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League announced the members of the Spring Academic All-Ivy team this week, and Penn was represented by ten student-athletes who excelled both in the classroom and out in 2009.

The ten student-athletes, representing ten different teams, include four seniors who recently graduated, five juniors and one sophomore.

Jonathan Boym was named honorable mention All-Ivy in men’s tennis this season, the third time he was selected to the All-Ivy team in his career. The 2006 Rookie of the Year, he went 9-5 playing at No. 2 singles. He served as captain of the tennis team for the past two seasons. A native of Marlboro, N.J., he graduated from Penn this May with a degree from Wharton with a concentration in management.

Joey Brown was a part of the 4x100-meter relay that won the outdoor Heptagonal championship and earned first-team All-Ivy honors. The relay's time of 40.83 was the eighth-fastest all-time at Penn and qualified the team for the NCAA East Regionals. In addition to his relay, Brown posted a second-place finish in the 100 meters at the outdoor Heptagonals and also earned second-team All-Ivy honors. The Lawrenceville, N.J.,native reached the IC4A's in both the 100 meters and the 4x100 relay as Brown won the 100 meters on three occasions in 2009. He graduated from Wharton in May with a degree in finance.

Tom Grandieri was a second-team All-Ivy selection in baseball after leading the Quakers offensively in 2009. A native of Media, Pa., he paced the Red and Blue with a .357 average and his 19 doubles not only led the team but slotted him second on Penn’s all-time single-season list. Three of his doubles came in a single game against Columbia – a mark which puts him atop the Ancient Eight’s single-game record book. He was recognized by the coaches from the Big 5 with his selection as All-Big 5. In adition, he was named to the Big 5’s All-Academic team. A junior who is majoring in communication, Grandieri will be back patrolling right field for the Quakers in 2010.

Brett Redina, a Palm Beach gardens, Fla. Native, led the men’s golf team throughout the 2009 spring season, punctuating it with a third-place finish at the Ivy League Championships in late April. At that event, Rendina had the final day’s low score among all 40 golfers. His third-place finish earned him first-team All-Ivy recognition. Overall, Rendina was Penn’s low scorer in three spring events (four overall), and his 75.5 stroke average was the best on the squad. He tied for medalist honors at Penn’s Rehoboth Beach Classic in March. Rendina graduated in May with a degree in political science.

Bayard Wilson, a junior from San Francisco, rowed on Penn’s varsity eight heavyweight boat that will compete at the IRA Regatta this weekend in Sacramento, Calif. At the EARC Sprints, the Quakers placed second in the third final for a 14th-place finish overall.

Maria Anisimova was a second-team All-Ivy selection in women’s tennis this season. The junior who hails from Hallandale Beach, Fla. compiled 4-3 Ivy League record playing primarily at No. 2, but as high as No. 1. Anisimova is enrolled in Wharton with a concentration in finance.

Alisha Prystowsky was primarily a catcher this season on the Red and Blue’s softball team and was a unanimous All-Ivy first team pick at the position. Starting all of Penn’s 44 games, Prystowsky ended 2009 with team highs in batting average (.372), runs (35), doubles (15), home runs (five) and slugging percentage (.636). She also had 45 hits. The Montclair, N.J. native is a molecular biology major.

Katie Purdy was one of this year’s captains for women’s rowing, and rowed on the varsity eight which placed seventh at the EAWRC Sprints on May 17. Purdy received first-team All-Mid Atlantic honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) this year, one of just two Penn women to be so honored. She graduated in May with a marketing degree from Wharton.

Emma Spiro earned first-team All-America and Co-Ivy League Player of the Year in women’s lacrosse this spring, following a breakout season that included a Tewaaraton Award nomination. She scored 32 goals, the second most on the team, and added three assists. Spiro dominated the draw with 50 wins this season and was a major factor on the Quakers’ nation-leading defense. A junior from Wellesley, Mass., Spiro is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences as an economics major.

Lisette Vitter was one of the leaders of this year’s women’s golf team, finishing as the team’s low scorer in three tournaments and taking second four other times. Her stroke average of 79.7 was second on the team for 2008-09. At the Ivy League Championships, Vitter tied for 18th overall and was second among Penn players. She had two top-10 finishes in 2008-09, at the Rutgers Invitational and Lehigh’s Kelly Gutshall Invitational. Vitter is enrolled in Wharton, with a concentration in marketing.
