PHILADELPHIA – It is that time of the year again, when the University of Pennsylvania cross country teams prepare for the Paul Short Run, which will be hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday. The all-day event, which will be the largest in Paul Short history, will comprise more than 6,000 runners from over 450 teams. Last year, the Penn women placed 16th in the Gold race and the men claimed the title of the Brown race.

The Paul Short Run will be the first time the Quakers compete in a 6K (women) and an 8K (men). The last two races, Friend Big 5 and Main Line, were shorter and were also not scored.

Penn has been showing much confidence and looks to continue on a steady and upward pace. Based on the last two races, the women should have a strong showing from several veterans and newcomers. Freshman Cleo Whiting has finished first for the Red and Blue in both races. Senior captain Kersie Jhabvala couldn’t have been happier with her performance at the Main Line (17:29.08), giving her eighth place overall. Both Whiting and Jhabvala prefer longer distances and are looking forward to Saturday.

The men have been working extremely hard to increase their level of competition and are definitely proving that the hard work is paying off. Senior Conor Nickel, a prime example, was first to cross the line for the Quakers in the Friend Big 5 and closed out the top ten finishers in both races. Nickel was one of five to finish the four-mile run (Main Line) in under 20 minutes, and freshman Nicholas Tuck was just shy (20:01.07).
