PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania’s women’s track and field team will host its first home outdoor track meet this season at historic Franklin Field this Saturday in the Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational.
The field events in the Big 5 Invite begin at 10:30 a.m. with the hammer. They conclude at 3:15 p.m. with the pole vault. The track events begin with the 4x100-meter relay at 3:15 p.m., and end with the 4x400-meter relay at 6:55 p.m.
Penn had several Top 10 finishes in its outdoor season opener last weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational. It was highlighted by sophomore Kersie Jhabvala’s first-place finish in the 10,000 meters. Her time of 37:04.59 puts her sixth all-time in the school record books.
Last year at the Big 5 Invite, the Quakers were victorious in five events. Then-junior Catherine Okoukoni claimed both the high jump and the long jump titles and fellow classmate Kristen Judge won the high jump. The Red and Blue also took first place in both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.
The Big 5 Invite is the first of five meets at Franklin Field this season, including Penn Relays and the 2012 Outdoor Heps Championships.
A full recap of the meet will be available at PennAthletics.com shortly after the completion of the day's events.
