PHILADELPHIA - For the second straight week, the University of Pennsylvania women's track and field team will serve as hosts at historic Franklin Field. On Saturday, the Red and Blue welcome 25 teams to the annual Penn Invite.
The field events will begin with the hammer at 8 a.m. The first track event -- the women's 3,000 meters -- is set to start at 9:45 a.m. The meet will conclude after the 4x400-meter relay at 2:35 p.m.
In this meet last year, Morgan Wheeler won the javelin, Catherine Okoukoni won the long and triple jumps, Kristen Judge claimed the high jump, Christine Cohick won the 5,000 meters and all three relays won. The 4x100 team snuck into the Penn record books with the fifth-best time in school history. They finished in 46.77 and became just the sixth foursome in school history to break 47 seconds in the event. The 4x800-meter foursome won by six seconds with a finish of 9:37.68, while the 4x400-meter team won with a time of 3:51.48.
Most recently, senior Leah Brown, junior Davielle Brown, senior Laura Steel and the 4x400-meter relay team claimed Philadelphia bragging rights for the Quakers at the second annual Big 5 Invitational on March 24.
This marks the second of three straight home meets for the Quakers. In addition to the Big 5 meet, the Red and Blue host the annual P-Y-P meet with Princeton and Yale on April 14. In all, Penn hosts five meets at historic Franklin Field this season, including the Penn Relays (April 26-28) and the 2012 Outdoor Heps Championships (May 5-6).A full recap of the meet will be available at PennAthletics.com shortly after the completion of the day's events.
