PHILADLEPHIA - The Philadelphia Soccer Six handed out its honors for the 2010 season Tuesday night at the annual PS6 Awards Banquet held at the University City Sheraton and Penn's remarkable 2010 season was justly honored. The Red and Blue were honored as co-champions of the PS6 along with Drexel as both teams went 2-0 in Soccer Six matches last fall. This marks the eighth title for Penn and fifth under current head coach Rudy Fuller. For the sixth time in his tenure at Penn, Rudy Fuller was named Bill Harris Coach of the Year by the Philadelphia Soccer Six. Fuller, who guided the Quakers to a 13-6-0 record and an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships where Penn picked up a win in the first round, was previously honored in 2001, '02, '05, '06 and '08. Senior Aaron Ross was named a co-recipient of the John McAdams Academic Player of the Year along with La Salle's Nick Dundon. Ross, the winner of the award in 2009, was a Rhodes Scholar finalist while appearing in 15 matches for the Red and Blue in 2010. Penn had three players named Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Stars, joining Temple as the leaders on the 12-man team. In addition to Baker, junior defender Thomas Brandt and junior midfielder Christian Barreiro were named all-stars. Both Brandt and Barreiro are making their second appearance on the PS6 All-Star Team after selections in 2009. |
