ECAC Men's Soccer All-Star Team
PHILADELPHIA - 22 Division I men's soccer players were named ECAC All-Stars on Wednesday by the head coaches of the ECAC's D1 programs, and Penn was honored with two selections. Midfielder Christian Barreiro was named first-team ECAC All-Star while defender Thomas Brandt was a second-team ECAC All-Star selection. The Quakers were just one of four schools with multiple selections to the ECAC All-Star team alongside Maryland, Connecticut and Dartmouth.
Christian Barreiro was one of three midfielders named second-team All-Northeast
Region, up one spot from his third-team All-Region nod in 2010. A
first-team All-Ivy selection this fall, Barreiro had a team high seven
goals and seven assists to pace the Quakers with 21 points. His seven
helpers were the most in the Ivy League for the second season in a row
and helped Barreiro finish with 58 career points, fourth-most by a Penn
player since 1969.
Thomas Brandt
was again named All-Region after he capped his career in fine fashion
with five goals from the central backfield. He scored three of those
goals in a wild 3-2 win at Harvard in double overtime in the season
finale, the first hat trick by a Penn player since 1995. In 2010, Brandt
was a first-team All-Region player, and this fall saw him receive
first-team All-Ivy honors for the second consecutive season.
