KANSAS CITY - Alex Murphy capped his summer season with a national championship over the weekend, playing for Lehigh Valley United '93 as LVU won its first national championship via a 1-0 win over the Chicago Fire at Overland Park Soccer Complex.

The win gave LVU its first-ever US Soccer Youth national title, and was broadcast nationally on the Fox Soccer Channel.

Manning the center back position, Murphy was part of a unit which made a LVU goal in the 34' stand up, holding the Fire to just six total shots and only one offering on goal.

Last season, Murphy appeared in 13 matches for Penn while serving as a primary substitution off the bench. He finished the season with one assist, setting up a goal against Air Force.

Murphy and the Quakers open their 2013 season on September 6 against Stony Brook at home.
