HANOVER, N.H. - Trevor McGuinness had a mixed bag of results during his
first round of competition in the Molloy Division of the Individual Squash
Championships. Coming in, McGuinness drew Anthony Zuo of Columbia. Unfortunately
for McGuinness he took an early loss Friday morning against Zuo. In the
consolation round, McGuinness bounced back with a victory over Pedro Souza of
Northeastern University. He will back be in action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
against Alex Gross of Tufts University.
In his opening Round of 64 match, McGuinnness played every game tight, but could not pick up the victory, dropping his opening match 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-7). Dropping down to the consolation bracket, McGuinness had to quickly forget about his earlier match and rebound second match at 1:30. McGuinness showed his mental toughness, coming back strong with a three-game victory in his consolation match-up. He came out of the gates strong, taking the first game 11-3. He then took the second and third games by scores of 11-6 and 11-8 to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. His consolation quarterfinal match will again be a matchup of relative unknowns this season. If McGuinness wins his first match against Gross, he will then advance to the consolation semi-finals of the Molloy Division tomorrow evening at 6:30. |
